Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, MBSR

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an internationally recognised eight week program to help people work more skilfully with stress and the pressures of everyday life. Developed by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn and grounded in decades of research, MBSR combines mindfulness meditation, body awareness and mindful movement to cultivate greater clarity, resilience and balance.

Through a variety of structured practices, we learn to recognise habitual patterns of thinking and reacting, to interrupt cycles of self-criticism and relate differently to challenging experiences. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to explore – everything else develops through the practice.

Across Eight Weeks We Explore

  • mindfulness of breath and body
  • body scan meditation and mindful movement
  • understanding stress and habitual reactivity
  • working skilfully with thoughts and emotions
  • responding rather than reacting
  • mindful communication and relationships
  • changing unhelpful patterns
  • integrating mindfulness into everyday life
  • establishing an ongoing personal practice

Rather than trying to eliminate stress, MBSR helps us change our relationship with it. We learn to recognise the physical, emotional and mental patterns that drive reactivity and develop practical ways to pause, reset and respond more skilfully.

As mindfulness develops, greater space can emerge around thoughts and emotions – creating more choice in how we meet life’s challenges.

Evidence & Benefits

MBSR is taught internationally across healthcare, education, workplaces and community settings. Extensive research into mindfulness-based practice include reduced stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms, improved emotional regulation, sleep and quality of life, and greater attention and concentration. “It is an unforgettable experience. A must for people wanting relaxation and more peace in their hectic and stressful lives.. I am more attuned to my work, people, and friends. I feel I am less judgemental of situations and people and more open to various experiences without being forceful. I am able to better regulate my stress levels and take care of myself, something which I was wanting to improve.” – Jacob, MBSR
